For those who love the outdoors, the local area offers plenty of opportunities. Visitors can enjoy a stroll along the river, or take a walk in the nature parks or the atmospheric Natisone valleys . Activities available in a radius of just a few kilometres include horse riding, mountaineering, fishing, archery, microlighting, tennis, swimming, target shooting and boules.
Cividale is an ideal base for an itinerary of art and culture. Once the heart of Lombard civilisation, Cividale still bears witness to that period in the superb Tempietto , built over a sheer drop to the Natisone river, and in the marvellous artefacts that still survive and are displayed, along with finds from Roman times, in the National Museum . Nor should visitors miss the impressive Duomo , where every year on 6 January the solemn Messa dello Spadone (Mass of the Great Sword) is celebrated. Finally, you will also be able to explore the busy streets of the pedestrian-only town centre, Piazza Paolo Diacono and the magical atmosphere of the Ponte del Diavolo (Devil's Bridge) .
